A true craftsman…

It had been over 5 years since we’d installed our first woodburner at Kernolou at a time when there were stinging nettles still growing through the living room walls.  In those early days we really were at the first stages of refurbishment and at the mercy of the elements inside or out, which on occasion felt like pretty much the same thing.

Unsurprising then that the little woodburner that had served us so well had over time started to rust and disintegrate and needed to be replaced. After having shopped around for a new stove for slightly more than a couple of months (well I do like to research these things thoroughly, or as Ian refers to it ‘torture everyone’) we were recommended by Les Bons Voisins to try Sean & Karen Hendicott.

We found some great testimonials on their website so I contacted Sean who arranged to come over to the house for an assessment when he talked us through the most efficient size and type of stove, gave us a guideline price and then set-up a meeting the following day at their showroom near Carhaix-Plouguer for us to have a look at the ranges on offer.

We eventually settled on a Hunters Cleanburn and after receiving a formal quotation paid the deposit, then it was full steam ahead… just a few weeks on and we’re the proud and toasty-warm owners of a beautiful new woodburner, installed on time and without mess or fuss.

Karen kept us up-to-date throughout the installation and even sent images (see gallery) of the works in progress.  Sean has done the most outstanding job for us, attention to detail was amazing – he even fashioned a bespoke heat-shield to protect the ancient wooden beams holding up the chimney breast; nothing was too much trouble. This was real craftsmanship at its finest;  though certainly not the cheapest option the end result is worth every single centime!
