After spending a couple of hours exercising pooch on the most amazing beach at Brancaster, we’d worked up a healthy appetite and just about to google ‘dog-friendly pubs’ in the area when we noticed the Ship Hotel just opposite the beach road.
What a lucky find! A quick glance through the window reassured us that it was certainly dog friendly and after finding a nice corner table in the bar area we ordered drinks and food at the bar.
Service was efficient and friendly – our meals which were served promptly were piping hot and absolutely delicious.
I opted for the succulent Roast Sirloin of Beef which was served with the lightest of Yorkshire puddings, fresh vegetables cooked to perfection and duck fat roasted potatoes. Sublime.
The other half went for the battered fish which looked amazing, accompanied by proper hand-cut chips, a light salad, a little cup of mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce to complete.
The Ship, one of the award-winning Flying Kiwi Inns is a boutique hotel with nine bedrooms and private function rooms are also available. According to their website all meals are prepared to order using fresh, quality, natural ingredients from local from farmers, fishermen and traders and it really does show.
We just popped in for lunch on this occasion, but will most definitely find an excuse for a return visit and an overnight stay at the hotel. Excellent value for money; great atmosphere, super service, and charming staff. Highly recommended.
